How are students transported to and from school?

The APS Transportation Department, (703)228-6640, is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students attending Arlington Public Schools. Free school bus transportation is provided to and from school for students living beyond a 1.5-mile walking distance from high school.

Bus Rider Letters: In the third week of August, students who are eligible for transportation services will receive a letter that includes their bus route, bus stop, and pickup time. The lower portion of the letter will include a “bus pass” for the student to present to the driver when boarding the bus.

Walker Letters: Also in the third week in August, a separate letter will be mailed to students living in schools’ “walk zones”. Bus transportation is available only for eligible students who receive a “bus pass” in the mail. All others are designated as “walkers.”  Families are asked to encourage students to walk or bike to school.

The late bus pick-up location is on the Yorktown Boulevard side of the building. Students should be dropped off in the morning, and picked up in the afternoon on the 28th Street side of the building.

For safety reasons, cars are not permitted in the school bus loop in front of the school at the start of the school day, or at dismissal.

If a student misbehaves on a school bus, he/she may lose bus privileges.
