NEW!!! APS AP Exam Policy

We are pleased that your student has chosen to take an Advanced Placement (AP) course this year and want to assist you in planning for the AP exam, which will be administered in person, at school, May 4 – 15, 2026. Beginning in the 2025–2026 school year, students will earn the additional quality point by successfully completing the AP course. Taking the AP exam is no longer required to receive the quality point. However, we strongly encourage students to take the AP exam(s) because they:

  • Provide an opportunity to demonstrate mastery of college-level content
  • May lead to receipt of college credit
  • Help strengthen college applications
  • Lead to greater success in higher education

Registration

  • Students must register for an AP test by Friday, October 31. This can be done on the College Board’s website at AP Students | College Board.
  • Students will receive a Join Code in class from their teacher from each AP course to use for registration.
  • Requests received after November 1 may result in a $40 late fee, per test.
  • Opting out of Exams:
    • Students will have the opportunity to opt-out of AP exams from October 15 – October 31. A reminder will be sent to students and families.

AP Capstone Diploma Program

AP Capstone™ is a diploma program based on two yearlong AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. These courses are designed to complement other AP courses that the AP Capstone student may take. Instead of teaching specific subject knowledge, AP Seminar and AP Research use an interdisciplinary approach to develop the critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills students need for college-level work.

Capstone to Certificate View

AP Seminar

A foundational course that engages students in exploring complex academic and real-world topics from multiple perspectives. Through an inquiry-based approach, students analyze diverse sources, including articles, research, speeches, and artistic works. They learn to synthesize information, develop research-based essays, and create oral and visual presentations, both individually and in teams. The course equips students to analyze information accurately and communicate evidence-based arguments effectively.

AP Research

A course that allows students to explore an academic topic of personal interest through a year-long investigation. Building on skills from AP Seminar, students design and conduct research, employ ethical practices, and analyze information to address a research question. They document their progress in a portfolio, culminating in a 4,000-5,000 word academic paper (with a performance or product, if applicable) and a presentation with an oral defense.
