AP Capstone Diploma Program

AP Capstone™ is a diploma program based on two yearlong AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. These courses are designed to complement other AP courses that the AP Capstone student may take. Instead of teaching specific subject knowledge, AP Seminar and AP Research use an interdisciplinary approach to develop the critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills students need for college-level work.

AP Seminar

A foundational course that engages students in exploring complex academic and real-world topics from multiple perspectives. Through an inquiry-based approach, students analyze diverse sources, including articles, research, speeches, and artistic works. They learn to synthesize information, develop research-based essays, and create oral and visual presentations, both individually and in teams. The course equips students to analyze information accurately and communicate evidence-based arguments effectively.

AP Research

A course that allows students to explore an academic topic of personal interest through a year-long investigation. Building on skills from AP Seminar, students design and conduct research, employ ethical practices, and analyze information to address a research question. They document their progress in a portfolio, culminating in a 4,000-5,000 word academic paper (with a performance or product, if applicable) and a presentation with an oral defense.
