Jazz Ensemble

The Yorktown Jazz Ensemble is open to all instrumental musicians in grades 9-12. The student will explore the basic fundamentals of jazz to include areas of interpretation, improvisation, theory, and other techniques of jazz and popular music performance. School and community concerts are given. Performances and rehearsals occur outside the regular school day. Instrumentation considers a traditional jazz “big band” setup but instruments may be added at the director’s discretion. Membership is through audition usually in early September.
