Summer Laptop Collection

Yorktown High School - Summer Laptop Collection

Updated: Friday, June 10th, 2022

In an effort to reduce the amount of instructional time that is disrupted when student devices are updated, the Offices of EdTech and Information Services in APS are requiring all student devices to be turned in by Wednesday, June 15th.

  • All devices need to be turned in.  “All devices” include:
    • Multiple iPads or MBAs
    • MiFis/HotSpots
    • Power Cords/Wall Blocks

All students (those who are ARE, and those who are NOT attending an APS Summer Program) are required to return the MacBook Air laptop and the Original Apple power cord/wall block no later than Wednesday, June 15th, 2022 to their teacher after their last final.

  • If any student wants to back up their laptop before turning them in for reimaging/updating they can find directions for Backing Up Your APS MacBook here.
  • Students currently in the Virtual Learning Program whose home school is Yorktown can drop off their laptops AND chargers in the Main Office at Yorktown from 8am-3pm Monday, June 13th – Wednesday, June 15th. You will need to fill out a label with your Student ID # and Password.
  • Prior to Monday, June 13th
    • Students can drop off their laptops with Mr. Wightman in Room 286 or in the Library in correctly identified boxes.
  • Monday, June 13th through Wednesday, June 15th, 2022
    • Laptops will be collected at the End of Each Final in their Classroom, AFTER their last final Friday 6/10 through Wednesday 6/15 to drop off their laptops and chargers to get reimaged/updated/inventoried.
    • Teachers will instruct students at the end of each final given “If this is your LAST Final, please turn in your laptop in the boxes provided.”
    • Teachers will also instruct students to fill out the premade label with their Student ID Number and APS Password and stick it to the left of their keyboard before turning it in.

APS Summer School & Virtual Virginia

The Department of Information Services and the School Support in the Department of Academics are working to identify those students taking relevant APS Summer Programs (APS Summer School and Virtual Virginia).  Those students will be identified as priorities to receive their devices at the earliest date.

Virtual Virginia:

Students who are participating in Virtual Virginia will have first priority to get their laptops reimaged/updated before the end of the 2022 School Year.  Those students MUST drop off their laptops with Mr. Wightman in room 286 by Monday 6/13 at 11am in order to get their laptop ready for Virtual Virginia.

Students in Virtual Virginia are welcome to request to borrow a Spare Dell while their laptop is being reimaged/updated.  This will come on a first come first serve basis when dropping off their Macbook Airs.

APS Summer School:
Students who are eligible for summer school that are in 12th grade will be provided a device at Washington-Liberty to use during summer school. Students currently in 9th through 11th grade attending summer school will also be provided with their device at Washington-Liberty during the first week of Summer School, July 5th-8th.

    • Students participating in APS Summer School ARE REQUIRED to turn in their laptop TO THE LIBRARY, NOT THEIR CLASSROOM AFTER THEIR LAST FINAL in order to get it reimaged and returned to them on time for the first day of APS Summer School.
    • If Friday 6/10 is your Last Final and you are taking APS Summer School, bring your laptop to Mr. Wightman’s Office, 286.
    • All other APS Summer School Students should go  down to the Library, AFTER their last final Monday 6/13 through Wednesday 6/15 to drop off their laptops and chargers to get reimaged.
    • These students will also need to fill out the premade label and stick it to the left of their keyboard before turning it in.
    • Those laptops and chargers will be available for pickup at Washington Liberty during the first week of Summer School.
