Summer Greetings from Yorktown High School – We hope you are having a wonderful summer and we look forward to welcoming you to Yorktown this fall. To help you get acquainted with Yorktown, we have planned the following New Student Orientations and invite you to join us on any or all of the dates below. All new students to Yorktown, including 9th graders and transfers, are welcome. Click here for promotion flyer!
Wednesday, August 19 – Building Tours
11:30 AM-12:30 PM – Main Entrance (door 1)
All new students – 9th grade and transfer students of all grade levels – and parents/guardians are invited to arrive anytime at the main entrance (door 1) between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm for guided building tours. Tours will last approximately 20 minutes and will depart as groups arrive throughout the hour from the main entrance of the building. Upperclassmen will lead the tours and point out important offices, locations and provide a general overview of the building. Students do not need to have their own individual schedule for this event.
Wednesday, August 26 – New Student Orientation Program with Activities Fair
6:00-7:00 PM – Parents (auditorium), Students (main gym), Transfer students (library), Transfer parents (Patriot Hall), ELL parents (room 107)
All 9th grade and transfer students of all grade levels as well as their parents are encouraged to attend this evening event beginning at 6 pm. Students will take part in an information session, including experiences from upperclassmen, as well as tours of the building. Parents will meet school staff, learn about our school philosophy, review logistics regarding scheduling and counseling in addition to hearing about opportunities for their students to get involved in Yorktown. Transfer students and parents will have a simultaneous program focused on relevant information, including an opportunity to meet current transfer students. There will be an activities fair for all attendees in the cafeteria from 7-7:30 pm.
Thursday, August 27 – Open House/Walk the Building
10-11:30 AM – Yorktown High School Main Entrance
All new students, including transfers, are invited to bring their schedule and walk the building in preparation for the first day of school anytime between 10-11:30 am. Many teachers will be available in their classrooms during this time. Students can arrive and depart on their own schedule during this 90-minute timeframe.In addition to the above, we will welcome 9th graders at 8:20 am on the first day of school, August 31st, for a brief orientation with their Patriot Period advisor. Additional information about new student laptop distribution will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
