Participation in extracurricular activities is a significant part of many students’ high school experience. As members of these groups, students are expected to conduct themselves as representatives of the school community. APS has developed substance use guidelines, which can be found in the co-curricular agreement (Spanish Version) that all student-athletes, marching band members and participants in theater and speech and debate and their parents are required to read and sign before they are able to participate in these activities. They focus on student accountability and ownership of personal behaviors for students engaged in these activities. The guidelines focus on providing assistance and resources for students who self-report substance use prior to engagement with law enforcement or school personnel while supplementing assistance with consequences for those who are engaged by law enforcement or are subject to school discipline due to substance use. This policy applies during school hours and beyond as well as affecting student participation in off-season activities when applicable.
