AP Capstone Information

The AP Capstone Diploma Program

The AP Capstone Diploma Program will begin at YHS in the Fall of 2023 with the introduction of AP Seminar as a new elective course for all 10th-12th grade students. The AP Capstone Program provides students who score a 3 or higher on the AP Seminar and AP Research exams to earn the nationally recognized AP Seminar and Research Certificate from the College Board. Students who score 3 or higher on the AP Seminar, AP Research, and an additional four AP classes of their choice will earn the nationally recognized AP Capstone Diploma from the College Board.Beginning Fall 2023, YHS will offer AP Seminar, a new AP elective course, to any 10th, 11th, or 12th grade student interested in building their critical thinking, research, collaboration, presentation, and time management skills. This is a skills-based elective AP course, and there are no prerequisite courses.The presentation recording, above, shares an overview of the requirements of the AP Capstone Diploma, an in-depth look at the curriculum and performance tasks of AP Seminar and first-hand experiences from current APS students who are completing the program at Wakefield High School.For more information, contact Yorktown’s AP coordinator, meghan.smeenk@apsva.us.
