The AP Capstone Diploma Program
The AP Capstone Diploma Program will begin at YHS in the Fall of 2023 with the introduction of AP Seminar as a new elective course for all 10th-12th grade students. AP Capstone Program Information Session: November 17th, 2022
The AP Capstone Program provides students who score a 3 or higher on the AP Seminar and AP Research exams to earn the nationally recognized AP Seminar and Research Certificate from the College Board. Students who score 3 or higher on the AP Seminar, AP Research, and an additional four AP classes of their choice will earn the nationally recognized AP Capstone Diploma from the College Board.Beginning Fall 2023, YHS will offer AP Seminar, a new AP elective course, to any 10th, 11th, or 12th grade student interested in building their critical thinking, research, collaboration, presentation, and time management skills. This is a skills-based elective AP course, and there are no prerequisite courses.The presentation recording, above, shares an overview of the requirements of the AP Capstone Diploma, an in-depth look at the curriculum and performance tasks of AP Seminar and first-hand experiences from current APS students who are completing the program at Wakefield High School.For more information, contact Yorktown’s AP coordinator, meghan.smeenk@apsva.us.
Virtual Chat with the AP Coordinator
All students, families, and staff are invited to attend a virtual chat with the AP Coordinator, Meghan Smeenk, to ask questions about AP Capstone and the AP program at Yorktown High School. Use the Microsoft Teams link to join the session on the following dates:

Upcoming Event: All About AP: A Student’s Perspective
Yorktown offers 35 unique AP courses to help students improve critical thinking skills, gain knowledge on a focused area of content, and have an opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. All students are invited to attend the four All About AP: A Student’s Perspective information sessions in January during Patriot Period in the Atrium. Prospective students will talk with current and former students about available courses to discover the highlights of each AP class, expectations for success, potential challenges and how to overcome them, and examples of course material. Each Wednesday or Friday of the event will feature a selection of AP Course, organized by department. See the schedule below for more specifics.
