Music

Yorktown’s music program offers a range of ensembles from concert and marching bands to jazz bands, percussion ensembles, orchestras, choirs, guitar ensembles and chambers groups. We also offer AP Music Theory, where students can hone their composition, production, and ear training skills. The Music Department is a place where students can be surrounded by peers who are as motivated as they are, and aim to have music be an important component of their overall education.

Yorktown’s music instructors strive to provide unique experiences relating to the performance and creation of music, and to develop skill sets that will enable autonomous learning. Performing music enhances self-esteem, builds self-discipline, and reinforces values such as cooperation, commitment, and working toward common goals. Students involved in Yorktown’s music ensembles and Tri-M Music Honor Society are given numerous opportunities for leadership development and receive leadership training. Our courses offer opportunities for musical and personal growth for all ranges of students, from the novice musician to the music enthusiast to the college-bound music major, and we aim to educate all students to the highest level of musical skill and knowledge commensurate with talent and ability.
