The Virginia High School League sponsors academic competition, called the Scholastic Bowl, within groups leading to conference, region, and state recognition. To stimulate interest and recognize student achievement in academics, competition emphasizes knowledge of English, mathematics, science and social studies. The season begins in November, with Conference competition being held in mid-January.
